Three people have been killed in a road accident in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram after a microbus lost control and fell into a roadside ditch.
The accident also left at least five others seriously injured. The incident occurred around 9:00 am today, Tuesday, in the Chunti Jangalia area on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway. The injured have been rescued and taken to various hospitals. The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately.
After the accident, members of Lohagara Fire Service and Dohazari Highway Police rushed to the scene and carried out rescue operations.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station Abdul Jalil confirmed the incident and said the microbus was traveling from Cox’s Bazar to Khagrachhari. On reaching the Chunti area, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to fall into a deep roadside ditch. Three people died on the spot.
Lohagara Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Rakhal Chandra Rudra said the microbus likely lost control in the Jangalia area, first hit a tree, and then fell into a ditch on the western side of the highway, resulting in the casualties.
He added that the bodies of the deceased were recovered from the vehicle and kept beside the road.
